Overview :
This module overviews the population health impact of pregnancy-related hypertension and diabetes in the District of Columbia and across the country. The course reviews the risk factors, diagnostic criteria, management, and treatment of these conditions so that health professionals can make appropriate treatment recommendations and referrals. This module will be in a lecture-style format with integrated questions throughout. It will be approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes in length and provide 1.5 hours of CME.
Learning Objectives :
• Recognize and properly diagnose pregnancies complicated by chronic hypertension, gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, and gestational diabetes
• Manage or describe the management of and make appropriate referrals for pregnancies complicated by chronic hypertension, gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, hypertensive emergencies, and gestational diabetes
• Determine the first-line options for the treatment of hypertension in pregnancy and gestational diabetes
• Recognize antihypertensive and diabetes medications to be avoided during pregnancy
• Counsel patients about the complications and risks associated with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and gestational diabetes and the appropriate administration of medications
