Overview:
Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) is a tool used by hospitalists across the nation to answer specific diagnostic questions and to guide performance and safety of invasive bedside procedures. This OhioHealth sponsored POCUS course is designed to teach the basics of bedside cardiac, pulmonary, abdominal, and vascular ultrasonography.
Objectives:
• Recognize the indications for using ultrasound in the guidance of bedside procedures.
• Describe the optimal machine settings, probe selection, and probe orientation and placement for ultrasound guidance of bedside procedures.
• Identify the structure viewed in evaluation for paracentesis, thoracentesis, lumbar puncture, central venous access, peripheral IV placement and arthrocentesis.
