British Menopause Society (BMS) Menopause Masterclass (Oct 16, 2024)

British Menopause Society (BMS) Menopause Masterclass is organized by British Menopause Society (BMS) and will be held on Oct 16, 2024.
Description:
Heart health, menopause, and HRT
• Various events in a woman’s reproductive and post-reproductive years can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. These will be highlighted, stressing the importance of identifying risks and raising awareness of their importance. The impact of HRT on cardiovascular risk, and the use of HRT in women with established cardiovascular disease, will be described.
Testosterone
• Testosterone remains an often talked about, but poorly understood, hormone in women. This session will look at the role of testosterone in women when it needs to be replaced, and the benefits and risks of testosterone replacement. We will also look at practical prescribing tips and how to test and monitor.
Contraception in the perimenopause
• The perimenopause presents multiple issues when finding the right hormonal treatment. The difficulty comes when we are also looking to prevent pregnancy, provide hormonal stability, or treat abnormal menstrual bleeding. This session will look at the use of contraceptives to manage the symptoms of perimenopause – from the oral contraceptive pill to the 52mg LNG-IUD. It will also look at when to stop contraception and how to prescribe HRT when someone is already established on contraception that suits them.
