For patients diagnosed with breast cancer during pregnancy, the type and timing of treatment needs to be planned carefully and coordinated between multiple members of the healthcare team (American Cancer Society, 2021). This course will define pregnancy-associated breast cancer, explain the difficulties associated with this diagnosis and treatment, and discuss current treatment recommendations for best patient outcomes.

• Define gestational or pregnancy-associated breast cancer.
• Explain the diagnostic difficulties with this diagnosis.
• Articulate the limitations of the use of “usual tools” with gestational breast cancer.
• Discuss the current treatment recommendations for best outcomes with gestational breast cancer.
• Analyze the ethical and emotional issues involved with this diagnosis.
