Statement of Need:
In the United States, the maternal mortality rate is three times higher for Black women and two times higher for Native American women compared to White women. Sadly, 65% of maternal deaths are preventable. Factors contributing to the maternal health crisis in minority women have decreased likelihood of Black women receiving prenatal care compared to White women, higher rates of anesthesia-related mortality, and complications during pregnancy, labor, or the postpartum period.
In this CMEO BriefCase, faculty will use case-based learning to connect healthcare disparities, stereotyping, implicit bias, and racism to poor outcomes in maternal health in minority populations.

At the end of this CME/CE activity, participants should be able to:
• Assess perinatal health and safety to reduce the risk of maternal morbidity and mortality in pregnant women of color
