Release Date: 01/30/2023
Expiration Date: 01/01/2025
Description:
To be successful in any public health effort, campus leaders and college health professionals must demonstrate trustworthiness. With significant portions of GenZ reporting mistrust of higher education, it is critical that higher education professionals understand how to cultivate and protect students’ trust in them. The Trustworthiness series will help participants understand and apply the principles of trustworthiness to their work and educate campus leadership.
In this session, we will hear from experts on the importance of trustworthiness for college health professionals, examine existing research on young peoples’ trust in higher education and health professionals, including generational and racial disparities, and consider how build a culture of trustworthiness that supports student wellbeing. This session is appropriate for college health and all higher education professionals.
Learning Objectives:
After this session, participants should be able to:
• Explain the concept of trustworthiness as a necessary component of effective public health strategies.
• Describe recent survey data exploring the extent to which GenZ trusts institutions of higher education and how that trust gap may impact student health and wellbeing.
• Explain disparities in trust levels between racial/ethnic groups of college students and how that can exacerbate existing health disparities.
