Description:
Suggestion, as opposed to persuasion, threat, or force, is a powerful way to influence change. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, healthcare providers constantly offer both beneficial and negative suggestions. Preliminary evidence indicates that clinicians can use a variety of cognitive behavioral interventions to help patients achieve positive outcomes. This course focuses on how suggestion and hypnosis help influence how individuals respond to assessment and intervention.
Goal and Learning Outcomes:
The goal of this course is to familiarize nurses, athletic trainers, speech and language pathologists (SLPs), and audiologists with suggestions of how words and actions influence how individuals respond to assessment and interventions.
After taking this course, you should be able to:
• Identify ways to create suggestions that direct a patient toward a desired outcome.
• Name three methods you can use to embed suggestions into your everyday conversations with patients, family members, and coworkers.
