This seminar aims to improve the learner’s awareness of current clinical best practices for the management and treatment of alcohol use disorder (AUD). Recent data suggests there is misunderstanding of the barriers to treatment as well as the risk factors associated with AUD. This educational activity will examine the current treatments and provide clarifications for pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions based on latest findings from the peer reviewed literature.
Learning Objectives:
• Identify the epidemiological and neurobiological elements of addiction.
• Describe genetic, environmental, and social risk factors that are associated with addiction and alcohol use disorder.
• Examine current treatment strategies to patients, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
• Evaluate perceived barriers to successful treatments for alcohol use.
