Suicide Risk Prevention and Assessment Course
Suicide Risk Prevention and Assessment Course is organized by Centene Institute for Advanced Health Education.
Description:
Suicide is currently the 10th leading cause of death for all ages in the United States, increasing by 35% from 1999 through 2018 (Hedegaard et al., 2020). Although suicidal patients are more likely to visit a primary care physician than a mental health professional prior to carrying out a suicide attempt, primary care physicians report decreased confidence in assessing suicide risk along with facing challenges in the implementation of primary care interventions to address suicide prevention (Cross et al., 2019 & Elzinga et al., 2020). This course will examine suicide assessment and prevention tools for primary care physicians and related healthcare providers.
Learning Objectives:
• Describe populations at highest risk for suicide.
• Analyze the use of the SAFE-T assessment tool for suicide prevention in the primary care setting.
• Examine the role of the healthcare team in suicide prevention.
