Activity Summary:
When a critically ill patient contracts Clostridioides difficile (C. diff), it can be a life-or-death situation. This session discusses the current use of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) and its role in treating C. diff which doesn't respond to traditional antibiotic therapies. Attendees learn about preparation, delivery methods, ongoing clinical trials, and what challenges may present in making FMT accessible to those who need it.
Objectives:
• Discuss the physical and financial burden of recurrent C. diff.
• Identify various routes to administer a fecal transplant.
• List at least two medical conditions that fecal transplants may help with, pending investigational clinical trials.
