Purpose Statement:
As breast imaging modalities, techniques and protocols continue to evolve, radiologists need constant training to stay current. Penn Radiology’s renowned faculty combines with other internationally acclaimed experts to provide the latest information impacting this essential sub-specialty. Current Concepts in Breast Imaging features a review of fundamentals and the latest medical technology designed to improve interpretation skills. Presented topics include digital breast tomosynthesis, screening breast ultrasound, full and abbreviated Breast MRI protocols, digital mammography and biopsy tips and tricks. The activity provides an analysis of emerging data that supports evidence based utilization of specific modalities to advance precision imaging of the breast patient. As such, Current Concepts in Breast Imaging offers a well rounded experience that allows radiologists to meet their MSQA CME requirements.
Objectives:
After completing this activity, practicing radiologists should be better able to:
• Review methods to optimize mammographic screening (i.e. increase cancer detection while minimizing false positives)
• Explain the roles and potential benefits of digital breast tomosynthesis and synthetic 2D imaging in the screening and diagnosis of breast cancer and benign breast diseases
• Discuss the data on the use of whole breast ultrasound, molecular breast imaging, and abbreviated breast MRI in the supplemental screening of women at average risk with dense breasts
• Discuss the strategies for breast MRI interpretation
• Identify how to improve image-guided breast biopsy skills
