Palliative Care and Hospice: Delivering Compassionate Honesty (Independent Study) is organized by Suburban Health Organization (SHO). ,,Event Date: January 11, 2021,End Date: July 21, 2023,,Activity Description and Need:,There is a growing appreciation nationally that patients, families, and healthcare providers struggle to recognize when an illness will be life-limiting or terminal, and struggle even more to discuss the issues this raises in a constructive, compassionate way. Clinicians of all disciplines are capable of having these conversations, of providing what is known as primary palliative care. Unfortunately, they often lack the tools to facilitate these conversations and/or even an awareness that these skills exist. This activity was recorded live on July 21, 2020. Dr. Broach provided a glimpse of what is feasible for all clinicians to learn to do during difficult discussions.,At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:,• Explain palliative care and hospice to patients and families, explaining both thesimilarities and differences,? Feel comfortable exploring patients’ and their families’ goals of care and how, they define quality of life,? Discuss techniques they can use to introduce difficult health care topics, and an,understanding of when to enlist specialty palliative care support,Learner Outcomes: Learners will demonstrate increased knowledge by listing at least, one technique they can use to discuss palliative care services.,,Additional details will be posted as soon as information is available.
