Nutrition at End of Life: What Every Dietitian Needs to Know

Nutrition at End of Life: What Every Dietitian Needs to Know is organized by Dietitian Central.
Live Event Date: Apr 27, 2023
Expiration Date: May 31, 2024
Description:
Nutrition at end of life is a topic many dietitians shy away from, either because they are uncomfortable and/or lack training in the topic. They may not even realize the influential role they can have in end-of-life care. The end of life deserves as much respect and attention as does every other part of life. Dietitians are uniquely qualified to support patients and their loved ones/caregivers in decision-making, dining, and dying. This webinar is for all dietitians, regardless of setting, to understand the role of nutrition and the dietitian at the end of life.
This session meets the RD requirement for a unit of "ETHICS" during a 5 year renewal period.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
- Understand the difference between hospice and palliative care.
- List the risks and benefits of tube feeding in the older adult with dementia.
- Explain how starvation relates to the dying process.
- Feel comfortable in having hard conversations about nutrition at the end of life.
