Meal structures, mindful eating, and Intuitive Eating are alternative eating philosophies that have become quite popular in the past 30 years. They are commonplace in the treatment of eating disorders and are also used to help chronic dieters with a history of yo-yo weight cycling. The questions that will be answered in this webinar are, "Can these NONDIET approaches be incorporated into diabetes eating, education, and treatment?" and, “How can the Registered Dietitian teach a patient or client with diabetes to apply the tools of these wellness philosophies?”
Laura Cipullo, RD, CDCES, CEDRD-S, 500-Hr YT, four-time author and former president of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals of New York will educate you on how to merge the basic diabetes eating education known as consistent carbohydrate counting with a meal structure. Meal structures can then be bridged with mindfulness and mindful eating and finally, Intuitive Eating. Research on diabetes and mindful eating as well as research on diabetes and Intuitive Eating will be presented. This webinar will show you how to incorporate tips, strategies, and behaviors to utilize when treating clients with diabetes.
Learning Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
- Identify four of the ten principles of Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole, MS, RDN and Elyse Resch MS, RDN.
- Identify 3 mindful and or mindful eating tools such as the app Head Space, eating with five senses and food logs.
- Recognize the benefits of mindfulness on blood sugar.
- Create a cognitive behavioral therapy food and blood glucose log that also includes mindfulness and IE Cues.
- Identify the three phases of teaching a client to ultimately eat using intuitive eating.
