Expiration Date: May 31, 2024
Description:
This webinar by Jean LaMantia, RD will introduce dietitians to lipedema, a connective tissue disorder that predominately affects women. It is often misdiagnosed as obesity and because of this individuals fail to get the appropriate support and treatment. The lack of success with traditional weight loss can cause them to feel stigmatized and misjudged which weighs heavily on their self-esteem and emotional health. Learn how to recognize this condition, and how to help these vulnerable women. This presentation includes a special guest talk by Sara Waddell, a patient advocate who will share her personal story of living with lipedema and how she manages her condition now that she has been diagnosed.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
- State at least three distinguishing features of lipedema.
- List at least three treatment strategies for lipedema.
- Articulate the main differences between lipedema, lymphedema, and normal body fat.
