A survey completed in 2017 showed that RDNs are using an intuitive eating approach more often than traditional weight management practices. RDNs are now more than ever emphasizing an all-foods-fit model rather than restriction. They are hesitating or refusing to provide specific meal plans, are discouraging clients from weighing themselves, and assisting clients in shifting focus from weight to other indicators of health. This supports the weight management paradigm shift that is being discussed in the literature.
Clients often come to us ready to ditch diets and end the rollercoaster ride they’ve been on most of their lives with dieting. However, many are seeking a non-diet approach yet still present with a strong desire to lose weight.
