Description:,Evidence suggests that the uptake of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use in the United States remains low despite substantial HIV risk, and studies indicate that over 50% of people who use PrEP discontinue preventive treatments within 6-12 months. PrEP persistence, or sustaining PrEP use over time, has become a critical challenge in PrEP implementation. There are many challenges to optimizing the use of PrEP among at-risk individuals, and pharmacists in community settings can help overcome these barriers. This activity will provide a review of the current state of HIV PrEP in the United States and current options for PrEP, with a review of the newest long-acting agent and other emerging therapies. Pharmacist strategies to improve access and persistence with PrEP will also be presented.,Educational Objectives:,At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:,• Recall the clinical burden of HIV and role of preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP),• Recognize the challenges and barriers to the optimal use of PrEP,• List current and emerging options for PrEP and the differences in efficacy, safety, and administration
