Description:
The practices of body arts — tattooing and body piercings — have become so commonplace that most healthcare professionals will confront the health risks caused by both at some time in their careers. Knowledge of these practices will better equip healthcare professionals across disciplines to care for those with body art, as well as recognize contraindications when patients present for interventions, such as general radiography or surgery.
Goal and Learning Outcomes:
This continuing education program will inform radiologic technologists, laboratory professionals, and nurses of considerations when caring for patients with tattoos or body piercings.
After taking this course, you should be able to:
• Describe at least two types of body art used by individuals.
• Explain at least two risks posed when imaging patients with body art.
• Recognize at least two possible complications of body art.
