Live Event Date: Sep 29, 2022
Expiration Date: May 31, 2024
Description:
Plant-based diets are becoming increasingly popular in the United States and elsewhere. Plant-based diets are defined differently by different people and they are not always defined as diets that are completely meat-free. In this lecture, only the health benefits of meatless plant-based diets will be reviewed. The list of health benefits of meatless plant-based diets is growing. Individuals who adhere to meatless plant-based diets have a lower risk of a growing number of chronic health conditions that include circulatory health problems, several cancer types, and many gastrointestinal conditions. The health benefits of these diets have been documented in different research types including randomized, prospective, and cross-sectional studies. These studies have reported quite consistent patterns regardless of other factors that impact the risk of developing health problems, such as age, ethnicity, or place of residency. This webinar will summarize the health benefits of plant-based diets and compare the research outcomes of those who adhere to such diets with outcomes among omnivores.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
- Summarize available literature on the impact of meatless plant-based diets on cardiovascular disease risk factors.
- Review the health outcomes of individuals who adhere to meatless plant-based diets and compare them to outcomes among omnivores.
- Gain insight into dietary strategies to further improve the health benefits of meatless plant-based diets.
