Goal:
Eating disorders can have severe medical complications and carry the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder therefore, prevention and early identification are critical as these disorders can become chronic and have serious psychiatric, psychosocial and medical consequences. This activity will allow the pharmacist and pharmacy technician to differentiate the types of eating disorders, identify potentially dangerous behaviors, recognize the extent of co-occurring psychopathology, identify when psychotherapy and pharmacological management are necessary, and recognize the medical complications associated with each disorder.
Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this program, participants should be better able to:
• LIST the factors of the multidimensional model of eating disorders
• DIFFERENTIATE between the types of eating disorders
• SELECT the treatment method used for each type of eating disorder
• RECOGNIZE the medical complications associated with each type of eating disorder
