Description:
This course is designed to provide the medical imaging professional with a comprehensive review of cardiac anatomy and physiology, and electrophysiology. The content begins with a discussion of the location and function of cardiac structures; explores arterial distribution and the cardiac cycle; and presents an overview of causes, symptoms, and treatment strategies for coronary artery disease; valvular diseases; congenital anomalies; and nonischemic cardiomyopathies.
Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
• Describe the anatomical structures and functions of the heart.
• Identify the main coronary arteries, their location, and function.
• Identify the key factors related to coronary artery disease including causes, symptoms, and treatment.
• Describe the steps in the cardiac cycle.
• Identify valvular diseases, causes, symptoms, treatment, and their impact on the heart.
• Identify several congenital cardiac anomalies.
• Define cardiomyopathies and give information related to symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment for the three main types on nonischemic cardiomyopathy.
