Goal:
This activity will review the fundamentals of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) including modes of transmission, pathophysiology, testing, prevention, and updated recommendations for treatment and monitoring.
Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
• IDENTIFY recommendations for HIV testing and differences between available tests
• EXPLAIN treatment options and monitoring parameters for patients living with HIV
• INDICATE how to manage coinfections and comorbidities in patients living with HIV
• RECOGNIZE tools used for HIV prevention
