Release Date: 10/5/2022
Expiration Date: 10/5/2024
Description:
This session will provide an overview of the health disparities related to post-pandemic stress, anxiety, and depression. Because of lower vaccine uptake in communities of color, many are remaining isolated and aloof. We will also look at the demographics of mental illnesses across races/ethnicities as well as look at perspectives on the differences noted. Finally, approaches to pain management difficulties in communities of color will be reviewed.
Learning Objectives:
• Review the trends and health disparities in the US related to stress, isolation, depression, and the COVID-19 pandemic
• Explore potential differences in the prevalence of mental illnesses in African Americans compared to other populations
• Discuss the accepted strategies for identifying patients at risk for opioid abuse as well as those whose pain can be safely treated
