Description:
The Technician Immunization Administration course is HHS approved and will allow Technicians to vaccinate children under 18 years and the COVID-19 vaccine. It is designed specifically to train pharmacy technicians to administer immunizations. This training will also allow technicians to immunize more broadly and do anything that the pharmacists prescribe and delegate to them, if allowed by your state. You should check with your State Board to see if they have any different requirements. This course is designed to prepare pharmacy technicians to administer immunizations subsequent to a prescription or order from a pharmacist or other prescriber. Technicians will learn the essentials of immunizations, vaccine storage and handling, ACIP recommendations, administration technique and side effect management. This course has been updated due to COVID-19 with recorded lectures and permits technicians to receive administration training and assessment from a pharmacist co-worker, friend or local relationship.
This training is also recognized as fulfilling the education requirements for the PTCB Immunization Administration Assessment-Based Certificate Program.
Part 1: Vaccine Principles for Pharmacy Technicians

Participants will complete 3 CDC trainings and watch a recorded lecture. The trainings are: Understanding the Basics: General Best Practice Guidelines on Immunization, Vaccine Administration, and Vaccine Storage and Handling. The recoded lecture covers how to establish an immunization program in your pharmacy, protocols, documentation forms, updated guidelines, vaccine storage and handling, workflow tips, and administration. Participants will take an exam at the end of each training and must have a minimum score of 70% correct responses in order to receive credit. The CE will upload to the CPE Monitor within 2-4 days after successfully completing this activity
At the completion of this activity, the technician will be able to:
• Describe the principles of immunity
• Discuss appropriate vaccine storage and handling
• Describe the principles of vaccine administration
• Establish a vaccination service
• Identify vaccine adverse readings
• Discuss the importance of Health care provider vaccinations
• Identify tool, guidelines and laws for vaccination
• Identify indications for immunizations based on ACIP guidelines
Part 2 : Vaccinating Adults & Adolescents: Discussion Session

Participants must complete Part 1 before attending a live webinar where there will be discussion on immunization and participants will have an opportunity to ask questions, they may have from their training in Part 1. A code will be supplied during the webinar where the participant will enter it into their Vaccinating Adults & Adolescents: Discussion Session credit. They will also be required to submit an evaluation after completing the training. The CE will upload to the CPE Monitor within 2-4 days after successfully submitting this activity. It will be your responsibility to check the CPE Monitor and confirm that your CEs are showing.
At the completion of this activity, the technician will be able to:
• Discuss best practices for immunizations
• Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injection technique
Part 3 :
Practice Injection Attestation Form and CPR Certification Proof (No CE, external- on your own)You must submit a practice injection attestation form (credit issued through part 2). This can be signed off by an immunizing pharmacist the participants knows, or arrange training through their state association. Participants must have a current adult CPR card. CPR training is not included in this training. If a participant’s CPR card is not up-to-date, please complete CPR training and provide proof of CPR certification. Online CPR training is valid
Technician Immunization Administration Certificate of Completion: In order to receive a certificate of completion for the Immunization training program, participants must successfully complete all 3 parts. Participants must notify WSPA once they have completed all 3 parts. WSPA staff will provide participants with a code to verify completion of Part 3, which will allow participants to print a Certificate of Completion through Lecture Panda.
