Course Overview
Ultrasound Principles and Instrumentation is a course designed to clarify, review, and augment the training and understanding of primary care clinicians in their understanding of point-of-care/clinical ultrasound. The modules in this course take a departure from the traditional slide presentation style lecture. Instead, the course is comprised of a series of video lectures aided by real-time instructor-led chalkboard visuals. This method of learning allows for the subject matter to be broken down to the basics and is designed to increase learning and retention.
Many clinicians lack a clear understanding of point-of-care/clinical ultrasound. This course aims to improve their understanding of basic ultrasound physics and their clinical application; appropriate ultrasound modes, transducer, and machine settings for general ultrasound applications; common artifacts in ultrasound imaging; and advances in ultrasound imaging include harmonic imaging, compounding, and speckle reduction. This CME course will utilize a combination of videos, quizzes, supplemental readings, and systematic discussion of clinical scenarios and practice cases to effectively deliver the course content.
Course Objectives:
As a result of this educational activity, participants should be better able to:
• Describe basic ultrasound physics and their clinical applications.
• Select the appropriate ultrasound mode, transducer, and machine settings for general ultrasound applications.
• Recognize the common artifacts found in ultrasound imaging.
• List some advances in ultrasound imaging including harmonic imaging, compounding, and speckle reduction.
What You'll Receive From This Course:
• An overview of ultrasound transducers and what they're used for
• Key ultrasound terminology, orientation, imaging planes, and biosafety
• Step by step illustrations of the nobs, dials, and modes of an ultrasound machine ("knobology")
• Examples of various ultrasound artifacts that impact ultrasound images
• How to handle an ultrasound transducer and set up the machine for your first ultrasound exam
• Quiz questions after each video to reinforce essential concepts
• Includes 4 CME (category 1), MOC Points, CE Credits
• 1 year of unlimited access, so you can review videos as needed (all MedCram courses are mobile/tablet friendly)
