To Pull or Not to Pull: Apical Surgery vs. Implant Replacement is organized by Dentaltown, L.L.C.
Released: 11/16/2016
Expiration Date: 06/30/2025
Overview:
This course describes the indications and contraindications, for performing or referring a patient for Apical Surgery. With the correct history, radiographic and clinical evaluation, the decision to perform an Apicoectomy will be weighed against further evaluation, a retreatment option, or extraction. Then a decision is more accurately made as to whether an implant or Fixed Bridge (Fixed Partial Prosthesis), a Removable Prosthesis (Fixed or Transitional Temporary Prosthesis), or doing nothing would be the final treatment plan offered to the patient. The specific workup (checklist) is frequently overlooked, leading to a less than ideal outcome. This course discusses and reviews options when a tooth is ailing or failing. We will describe in detail Periapical Surgery, its history and present state of the art with success rates and include a discussion on each of the following 6 topics within in the field of Implantology and Apicoectomies:
• Case selection
• Fiberoptics
• Magnification
• Ultrasonic Retropreparation
• Guided Tissue Regeneration
• Cone Beam Computerized Tomography (CBCT) to determine when Apical Surgery is indicated and when it is contraindicated.
