CBD is a plant-derived compound from Cannabis sativa, the species of plant that includes both hemp and marijuana. In the United States, CBD is marketed in a range of consumer products—food and beverages, OTC supplements, personal care products, and cosmetics—that are subject to FDA regulation. Marketed consumer products containing plant-based CBD are either hemp-derived or marijuana-derived. This article summarizes the differences between the three types of cannabidiol (CBD) products.
