The Reemergence of Droperidol for Acute Agitation

The Reemergence of Droperidol for Acute Agitation is organized by Connect Educate Impact (CEI).
Initial Release Date: October 13, 2021
Planned Expiration Date: October 13, 2024
Description:
Safety concerns led to the removal of droperidol from the market, resulting in many clinicians lacking experience with its use in residency or formal practice. The concerns were later found to be overstated, and there is now a resurgence of droperidol use in modern practice. Join us as we evaluate the literature and apply the evidence to make recommendations for treating patients with acute agitation.
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this application-based course, pharmacists and pharmacy students should be able to:
• Describe the clinical approach to the acutely agitated patient
• Summarize pharmacotherapy options utilized for acute agitation
• Assess the historical data contributing to the black box warning of droperidol
• Describe the design and results of a study evaluating the safety and efficacy of droperidol for acute agitation
• Apply evidence in making recommendations for patient care
