Asthma and allergy are common conditions with complex etiologies involving both genetic and environmental contributions. This course summarizes the genetic studies of asthma and allergic diseases that have been conducted over the past 40 years, with emphasis on studies completed in the past 5 years and, in particular, on results of genome-wide association studies. It discusses asthma and allergy susceptibility genes and the common and unique biological pathways that are dysregulated in these related conditions.
