The Genetics of Asthma and Allergic Disease: A 21st Century Perspective (Apr 03, 2022 - Apr 02, 2025)

The Genetics of Asthma and Allergic Disease: A 21st Century Perspective is organized by Opus Medicus, Inc.
Course Dates:
Last Review Date: 03-Apr-2022
Expiration Date: 02-Apr-2025
Description:
Asthma and allergy are common conditions with complex etiologies involving both genetic and environmental contributions. This course summarizes the genetic studies of asthma and allergic diseases that have been conducted over the past 40 years, with emphasis on studies completed in the past 5 years and, in particular, on results of genome-wide association studies. It discusses asthma and allergy susceptibility genes and the common and unique biological pathways that are dysregulated in these related conditions.
Objectives:
• Epidemiology of asthma and allergy.
• Clinical heterogeneity and intermediate phenotypes.
• Environmental modifiers of asthma and allergy.
• Asthma and allergy gene discoveries.
• Relationship between asthma and allergic disease.
Topics:
• Asthma and Allergic Diseases
• Environment Modifiers of Asthma and Allergy
• Approaches for Discovering Asthma and Allergy Genes
• An Overview of Asthma and Allergy Gene Discoveries
• Meta-analyses of Genome-wide association studies (GWAS)
• Missing Heritability' in Asthma and Allergic Diseases
• Other Considerations
• Asthma and Allergic Disease: Same Disease or Shared Pathways?
• Concluding Remarks and Future Directions
