Description:
Over 58 million Americans have at least one form of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) or cardiovascular disease (CVD). 50% of all cardiac deaths result from CHD. This CE webinar will review risk factors, such as atherosclerosis, and discuss the role of cholesterol in the process in women and men. Cardiovascular epidemiology, prevention, early detection, and treatment options will be reviewed. There will be an update on Menopausal Hormone Therapy and Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs). Key elements of a “behavioral” approach will be presented that will help us provide lifestyle interventions important to our message and the patient’s health. An update on the link between periodontal infection and cardiovascular disease will be provided, as well as the use of panoramic radiography in the detection of calcified carotid arteries.
Learning objectives:
At the end of the CE webinar, the participant will be able to:
• Discuss the prevention, early intervention, and risk factors for Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) and cardiovascular disease (CVD);
• Analyze the myths associated with CHD and to role of nutrition in the management of the disease;
• Summarize commonly used therapies that should not be initiated for the prevention or treatment of CVD, because they lack benefit, or because risks outweigh benefits;
• Evaluate the behavioral model and the “5-A’s”: Counseling Framework for Change.
Additional details will be posted as soon as information is available.
