Assuring appropriate staffing in the critical care unit is a challenge. As leaders continue working toward a significant shift in safer staffing methodologies, the application of evidence for this complex problem is one approach. The facilitator presents an innovative, unique model of care designed to bring the ICU to the patient. The t-12 Model of Care involves the deployment of a highly trained critical care nurse to the emergency department for the stabilization of critically ill/injured patients. Once stable for transport, patients are expertly and emergently transferred to the Trauma ICU, room 12 (T-12) for stabilization and then ultimately placed in the appropriate intensive care unit when a bed is available.
