Sniff and SCRATCH - Simple Cannula/Room Air Trial for Children: Bronchiolitis and Oxygenation
Sniff and SCRATCH - Simple Cannula/Room Air Trial for Children: Bronchiolitis and Oxygenation is organized by American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).
Released/Updated: Sep 26, 2022
Expires: Dec 31, 2025
Activity Summary:
Bronchiolitis is the most common lower respiratory tract infection in children with the most severe symptoms in infants accounting for 58,000 hospitalizations and 100-500 deaths in young children annually. Care is largely supportive. Initial data describing the positive impact of high-flow nasal cannulas in this population skyrocketed use across hospitals. We discuss oxygenation, oxygen delivery, review therapies as well as QI work in decreasing high-flow use across the US healthcare system.
Objectives:
• Define oxygenation and describe three oxygen delivery methods.
• Analyze the evidence-based interventions available to support bronchiolitis management.
• Discuss two interventions that can be applied to decrease high-flow oxygen use and duration.
