Course Description:
This course will focus on the clinical application of current research for running rehabilitation & performance enhancement. We will use an analysis of basic bio-mechanical demands of running along with current research on running efficiency to synthesize a clinical exercise framework. We then incorporate concepts of teaching for individualized motor learning into the exercise progression. Our goal is to tackle two of the largest clinical challenges most therapists have on a daily basis; how to bridge research into exercise and how to teach & progress exercise so our patient achieves skill transference into the desired functionality instead of just gaining competency in the taught exercise.
After this webinar, it is our goal that you will have both the exercise progression & clinical thought framework to guide improvement in runners at all levels. While a basic exercise progression will be provided, the dominant theme will be the practical application of “what you do is less important than how you do it” to clinical practice.
This online certificate course for Physical Therapists & Occupational Therapists is a learning module taught via on-demand streaming video. At the end of the course, there will be a quiz. Upon successful completion of the quiz, a certificate confirming completion of the Running Treatment Rationale Course will be issued.
Course Objectives:
• Identify objective measures & functional tests that correlate with the biomechanical demands
• Identify methods to translate those demands into principles for exercise progression
• Identify key motor learning evidence to support clinical exercise progression rational
• Identify the clinical concept of “the function of the dysfunction” as a clinical thinking building block
• Identify a basic exercise progression & freedom for adaptation that is applicable to a broad spectrum of running injuries by moving beyond strengthening by teaching function
• Identify the basic biomechanical demands for successful running
