The diagnosis of RA increases with age and is more commonly seen in women. RA has been shown to decrease life expectancy and is a major factor leading to adult disability. This educational activity will review the pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and diagnosis of RA. The current ACR guidelines for treatment will be reviewed along with the current therapies. Methods used to measure and monitor the effectiveness of treatment, along with patient education, will also be discussed.,,Learning Objectives:,Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:,• Describe the clinical presentation of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and the diagnostic criteria.,• Explain the 2015 American College of Rheumatology (ACR) recommendations for the treatment of RA.,• Summarize typical use, adverse effects, monitoring parameters, and contraindication for non-biologic DMARDs, biologic DMARDs, and small molecule therapies.,• Describe methods used to measure efficacy.,• Identify patient education considerations.,Note: This activity is available for free to members of NASP.
