Hypertension affects almost half of all adults worldwide with prevalence increasing with age. Hypertension is a leading risk factor for heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and diabetes. When patients are treated to recommended blood pressure targets, these risk factors significantly decrease. Pharmacologic stepped therapy to improve blood pressure and reduce cardiovascular disease risks will be reviewed. Recognized drug classes will be presented as a tool kit for initial prescribing decisions, including classes of medications recommended for patients with specific comorbid conditions, utilizing case-based learning.,Objectives:,• Utilize the 2017 treatment guidelines for adults with hypertension (HTN) when making prescribing decisions.,• Review the general pharmacologic agents recommended when treating HTN stages in adults.,• Discuss the main classes of medications recommended in the treatment of patients with specific comorbid conditions.,Additional details will be posted as soon as information is available.
