Overview:
OMSs are highly trained and experienced in office-based intravenous sedation and anesthetic techniques. However, not all OMS practices are prepared to handle the preoperative anxiety some patients experience. From psychological side effects such as syncope and hyperventilation to failing to show for appointments, manifestations of pre-anesthetic stress and anxiety need to be addressed.
This 60-minute webinar reviews options for pre-medication to reduce patient preoperative stress and anxiety. Options for in-office administration of non-intravenous sedative agents and techniques for pediatric patients are also discussed.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
• Integrate safe and appropriate use of oral anxiolytic agents for adult patients.
• Recognize signs of significant stress and anxiety in patients during the consultation visit and present options to manage these issues.
• Identify the various pharmaceutical agents available for non-intravenous sedation and choose the optimal drug for a patient based on the therapeutic profile.
• Revise office protocols to include oral sedation in their practice.
