Description:
Program Overview:
Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a rare, life-threatening disorder characterized by elevated pressure in the pulmonary arteries that quickly progresses to right ventricular failure and premature death. Expert consensus recommends early diagnosis and immediate treatment to improve survival in this mostly younger adult patient population. However, because PAH is an orphan disease with nonspecific presenting symptoms such as dyspnea, fatigue, weakness, heart palpitations, edema, and/or syncope, diagnosis is a challenge. In addition to knowing how to recognize and diagnose PAH, physicians must also be able initiate appropriate therapeutic strategies, generally combination therapies using multiple drug classes, and be aware of emerging treatment modalities to optimize outcomes.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
• Describe the signs and symptoms of PAH
• Identify assessment tools used to aid in the diagnosis and prognosis of PAH
• Incorporate guideline-recommended care for patients with PAH considerate of current and recently approved therapeutic options
• Evaluate the efficacy and safety of emerging therapeutic options for PAH
Additional details will be posted as soon as information is available.
