Course Description:
The purpose of this session is to provide dietitians with skills to address common gastrointestinal disturbances in CKD as well as take a look at other gastrointestinal disturbances that can lead to direct impacts to the kidneys. Speakers will cover how to monitor and care for these types of individuals to preserve kidney function and improve outcomes.
Learning Objectives:
• Outline nutritional considerations in the individual with short bowel syndrome and CKD
• Describe gastrointestinal alterations of calcium and oxalate after gastric bypass surgery and nutritional considerations to minimize or prevent calcium oxalate stone formation after gastric bypass surgery
