Overview:
Critical Care Units are specifically designed to care for our sickest patients. The Registered Dietitian Nutritionist provides care for patients with systemic inflammatory response syndrome, multiple-organ dysfunction, burns, and pressure ulcers. This course will address the modifications of the nutrition focused physical exam needed in the critical care setting. We will explore the evidence, investigate a case study, and explore practice issues.
Learning Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
• Describe the pathophysiology of SIRS, MODS, Burns, and Pressure Ulcers.
• Identify role of the Registered Dietitian Nutrition in the critical care setting.
• Explain the role of protein in wound healing.
