Description:
The word watch is used in the vast majority of dental offices numerous times throughout the day. Generally speaking when a practitioner sees an area of of concern on a tooth that in their mind does not justify surgical intervention the word watched is used. If therapy or education is not being provided in conjunction with this statement, the practitioner is simply waiting for the disease process to progress to justify surgical treatment. In the days of traditional GV Black dentistry, this paradigm made logical sense as older restorative materials did not lend themselves to conservative preparation. In today's world diagnostic technologies have improved to help detect issues earlier and therapeutic materials are now available in the marketplace to positively change the oral environment. In the event surgical intervention does need to occur, preparations can be kept very conservative and restored with new age flowable composites.
