Description:
ST-segment elevation myocardial infarctions (STEMIs) are a particular type of MI that can be fatal if not treated promptly. Healthcare professionals (HCPs) should be able to identify a STEMI on an electrocardiogram (ECG). They should also follow evidence-based protocols and standards of practice for the care of patients with STEMIs. Along with the team approach, early identification and timely treatment of myocardial ischemia and infarction may reduce morbidity and mortality.
Goal and Learning Outcomes:
The goal of this course is to provide nursing professionals in acute care with knowledge of MI and ST-segment elevation.
After taking this course, you should be able to:
• Discuss common causes of an MI and how to assess a patient with an MI.
• Identify management strategies for an acute MI.
• Indicate post-MI management strategies to prevent recurrent MIs.
