Every day, doctors in psychiatry have to meet and respond to patients with severe and often chronic problems with often high risks for themselves or sometimes also high risks for others (Tyrer et al. 2015). Phew. patients with personality disorders can induce great feelings of uncertainty among therapists. Estimates of the prevalence vary between 4-15% (Tyrer et al.) However, the prevalence of personality disorder is higher in people in contact with health care than in people who have no contact. Approximately a quarter of patients in primary care (Moran et al. 2000) and 50% of patients in psychiatric outpatient care meet the criteria for personality syndrome (Beckwith et al. 2014).
