Migraine is a common yet complex neurological disease that causes debilitating symptoms and diminishes quality of life for patients. In recent years, the pathophysiology of migraine has been better understood leading to development of new drugs for both prevention and treatment that target inflammatory mediators and steps in the signaling cascade. While newer therapies are available, migraine often remains undiagnosed and undertreated. In this activity, a faculty expert will delve into the current state of migraine management including a review of the pathophysiology of migraines and treatment goals, with a focus on new and emerging therapies for the prevention and treatment of migraines. Strategies for pharmacists to positively impact and improve patient quality of life by providing valuable counseling and thorough disease-state education will be discussed.,Educational Objectives:,At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:,• Identify the pathophysiology, diagnostic criteria, symptoms, and clinical burden of migraine.,• Examine evidence-based recommendations for the management of migraine and the mechanism of action, efficacy, safety, and place in therapy of current and emerging therapies.,• Explore patient-specific considerations when making recommendations for therapy, addressing adherence barriers, and optimizing outcomes of patients with migraine
