This course reviews the history of the diagnosis of mesothelioma, reviews problems concerning the cytologic diagnosis of mesothelioma, and provides an update on the use of immunohistochemical stains in differentiating benign from malignant mesothelial cells in effusions.
Objectives:
• Increase their familiarity with the history of the diagnosis of mesothelioma.
• Be able to construct an immunohistochemical panel for the identification of mesothelioma.
• Be familiar with controversies concerning the cytologic diagnosis of mesothelioma.
• Be familiar with the histologic types of mesothelioma.
