
International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Course (Jun 17 - 18, 2024)

International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Course is organized by Academy of Advanced Life Support and will be held from Jun 17 - 18, 2024 at Academy of Advanced Life Support, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa.
Course Structure:
The course manual is provided ahead of the training for pre-study. The classroom sessions focus on the practical implementation of the theory learned before the course and consist of many simulated scenarios and the following skill stations:
• Control of life-threatening bleeding using various techniques including tourniquets and hemostatic agents;
• IV and IO access;
• Decompression of tension pneumothorax;
• Spinal motion restriction and extrication of patients in various settings using various items of equipment; and
• Stabilisation of extremity trauma.
Aims and Objectives:
The ITLS course teaches a systematic approach to the assessment and management of trauma victims.
The course covers the following topics:
• Scene safety and initial triage;
• Assessment and initial management of trauma victims;
• Airway management in trauma;
• Shock and control of bleeding;
• Head and spinal trauma;
• Chest trauma;
• Abdominal trauma;
• Extremity trauma;
• Burns;
• Trauma in various populations (Pregnant, children, and elderly);
• Trauma cardiac arrest.
