Competency-based education is a complex topic, present in US education since the 1970s. Definitions vary on what is competency and how to provide effective measurement over the attainment of minimum clinical hours. Developing competency-based education models assist both the faculty and students to assess and measure attainment of the necessary competencies to successfully complete a course, a clinical rotation, and document final competencies prior to graduation. Utilizing the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) toolkit on competency-based evaluation, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) Core Competencies Content, along with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Doctor of Nursing Practice (AACN) essentials, participants will develop the framework for graduate clinical learning and evaluation. This webinar with provide examples of how to develop competency-based clinical assessment tools, providing clearly defined expectations and measurements.
