- Course expires: 05/26/2024
Course Description:
This program will highlight issues related to gender inequality in medicine and solutions for building a more inclusive physician workforce. Evidence of the “gender gap” persists across many professions, and medicine is no different. Studies show that female physicians experience salary inequities and barriers to career advancement more commonly than their male counterparts, yet women are not the only ones harmed by environments that foster gender inequality.
Such environments also have the potential to strain professional relationships in general, create a negative workplace culture and exacerbate problems with physician satisfaction across the board. More subtle, but equally concerning are the potential effects of gender inequality on patient care.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this learning activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe examples of gender disparities in medicine
- Articulate how gender equity is important to physician satisfaction and patient care
- List ways that organizations may strengthen their workforce with equitable practices
