Medication non-adherence remains an unmet challenge for healthcare providers, with medication non-adherence being responsible for an estimated 125,000 avoidable deaths and $100 billion annually in preventable healthcare costs (Kleinsinger, 2018). This course will discuss the impact of and reasons for medication non-adherence, analyze the treatment response of long-acting injectable agents for patients with schizophrenia and other psychiatric disorders, as well as focus on team approaches for the management of psychiatric cases.
Learning Objectives:
• Discuss the impact of medication non-adherence on patients’ treatment prognosis and related comorbidities
• Evaluate reasons for medication non-adherence, as well as patient centered interventions to improve non-adherence
• Delineate significance of medication non-adherence for patients with schizophrenia
• Analyze treatment response of long-acting injectable agents for patients with schizophrenia
• Integrate team approaches for management of psychiatric cases
