Overview of Course
This course will focus on the application of simulation evaluation and assessment concepts. During the asynchronous preparatory work learners will review the following: the Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice for simulation evaluation and assessment; evaluation and assessment tools for faculty, simulation-based experiences, learners, and simulation programs; and various resources to facilitate understanding of concepts discussed during the synchronous session. During the online synchronous session, learners will work in groups to: utilize evaluation methods for faculty, simulation-based experiences, learners, and simulation programs; discuss measurement validity, reliability, bias and generalizability of tools; determine an approach for evaluating psychomotor skills competency; and develop evaluation data analysis application plans Are you a simulation novice? We recommend you start with the Foundation Courses to build a strong portfolio in simulation education best practices. It is recommended that participants have prior foundational knowledge and experience with simulation pedagogy before enrolling in the Deeper Dive Courses.
Course Objectives:
By the end of the session, participants will:
• Distinguish between formative, summative and high stakes evaluation and assessment methodologies as applied to simulation.
• Apply an appropriate evaluation and assessment method for faculty, simulation-based experiences, learners/participants, and/or a simulation program.
