Ethics for Nurses Course
Ethics for Nurses Course is organized by Nurse.com - OnCourse Learning Corporation.
Description:
Ethical decision-making in healthcare occurs on a regular basis, often without so much as a passing thought. Healthcare professionals are held to high standards of moral character and an expectation to be patient advocates. This innate drive to do “what is right,” arguably a prerequisite for pursuing a career in patient care, is rooted in history, law, clinical education, and current daily practice. What do we do when this line is blurred, and no clear answer appears to all involved parties? This course seeks to give the nurse an understanding of past, present, and future practices of ethical decision-making in the acute care setting as well as how to manage instances when our own values and judgment do not align with that of the patient, family, or care team.
Learning Objectives:
After taking this course, you should be able to:
• Differentiate the past events and current ethical principles that govern patient care today.
• Apply these standards to patient situations that often present as morally distressing.
• Identify how to foster a culture of ethics within the acute care setting.
